- Shanghai-based Run Robotics unveiled what it calls the world’s first AI-powered “centaur” wheel-leg hybrid robot at WAIC 2026, combining a four-wheel all-terrain base with a humanoid upper body to deliver both high-speed mobility and advanced manipulation capabilities.
- Built for hazardous and industrial environments, the robot is designed for autonomous inspections, firefighting, emergency rescue, mining, oilfield operations, and industrial maintenance. It can traverse rough terrain, carry payloads of 220–265 pounds (100–120 kg), and use robotic arms to clear obstacles, operate equipment, and assist responders.
- The robot uses a self-developed perception system that combines lidar, binocular vision, and depth cameras to detect people, pipelines, valves, gauges, and obstacles, allowing it to autonomously navigate, avoid hazards, and perform tasks with minimal human intervention.
- Run Robotics says more than 95% of the robot’s core components are made in China, underscoring the country’s growing robotics industry. The company has already secured commercial orders, plans to open an automated assembly line by late 2026, and unveiled the robot at a conference that showcased China’s accelerating leadership in intelligent robotics.
