Fingerless salad
A customer in Connecticut is taking fast casual to a whole new level by suing salad sensation Chopt after allegedly finding a finger in her greens. Allison Cozzi of Greenwich, CT, claims she discovered the unexpected finger-food surprise while munching on a salad purchased at a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, New York.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday, reveals that Cozzi’s seemingly innocent salad adventure on April 7, 2023, took a rather sinister twist. According to the legal document, a manager at the restaurant accidentally added a dash of her left pointer finger to the mix while chopping arugula.
…the contaminated arugula was left on the service line and served to customers.
Lawsuit
Despite the manager’s unfortunate finger mishap, the lawsuit alleges that the contaminated arugula found its way into the unsuspecting salads of multiple customers, including Cozzi herself. The manager had left the scene to seek out medical care, but “the contaminated arugula was left on the service line and served to customers,” the lawsuit states. The Westchester County health department records indicate that Chopt faced a fine of $900 for this fingernail-biting incident.
Cozzi, who claims to have suffered a litany of injuries ranging from shock and panic attacks to migraines and cognitive impairment, is seeking unspecified monetary damages. Her attorney stated on Tuesday that she won’t be making any additional comments. We can only imagine the trauma of realizing your salad has turned into a finger-licking feast.
An email seeking comment was sent to Chopt Creative Salad Co., a chain boasting more than 70 locations across the eastern United States. As of now, Chopt remains tight-lipped about the finger fiasco.
While we wait for Chopt to respond, one can’t help but wonder if their next menu item will be the “Finger Lickin’ Chicken Caesar” or the “Digit Delight Mediterranean.” Until then, salad enthusiasts might want to keep an eye on their greens – you never know what might be lurking beneath the lettuce, pointing back at you!
