It’s an ad, ad, ad, ad world. But in India, a buzzkill moviegoer got upset over the amount of commercials played before the movie. Apparently, he didn’t appreciate the time-honored tradition of having to sit through an excruciating amount of ads and trailers, and he decided to sue. To add to the perplexing multiplex story, the lawsuit was successful.

The plaintiff bought three tickets to a war drama for 826 rupees, or $10, which would be a great price for one movie ticket in the United States. But the movie’s start was allegedly delayed almost half an hour because of trailers, ads, and other such cinematic “fillers.” This caused work to be missed, according to the complaint, and such damages “cannot be calculated in terms of money as a compensation.”
Having said that, the legal suit wanted compensation of $570 in damages and $60 for “mental agony.” When asked why he didn’t leave the movie when it became time to return to work, the man said, “What? Why would I do that? I don’t even understand the question, to be honest.”

The court in India ruled that the pre-movie wait time was excessive, and ordered the plaintiff to be paid $320, and the theater chain to pay $1,150 in fines. “It’s a sad day when movie theaters can’t keep playing ads and trailers to the point where audiences continuously groan,” said a businessman who chose to remain anonymous.
When asked if a lawsuit for too many commercials could be successful in the U.S., a lawyer responded by laughing uncontrollably for several minutes. She then said, “Um, let’s just say I highly doubt it. Wow, too many commercials in America – thanks for the laugh, I needed that.”
