• A customer threw a cheesesteak at Tom Francano, the longtime general manager of Philadelphia’s Pat’s King of Steaks, around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Multiple angles captured the incident on video.
• Francano, who says he has worked at the iconic South Philadelphia restaurant for nearly 50 years, said the customer returned after ordering a cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz and onions and complained that the sandwich was “garbage.”
• According to Francano, the customer threw the sandwich at his face, scattering food and other debris, then fled down the street. He also said the individual arrived with a camera and tripod, leading him to suspect the person could have been an influencer.
• Restaurant owner Frank Olivieri called for the person responsible to be held accountable. He floated a possible $5,000 reward for the person’s arrest and prosecution for assault and battery. Police were contacted, but the report did not confirm the status of any investigation or potential charges.

• The surrealist masterpiece, which depicts a massive floating rock topped by a castle above a stormy sea, has been a centerpiece of the museum since 1985 and is widely regarded as one of Magritte’s most recognizable works.
• The damage was reportedly caused by a young child visiting the museum who picked up a pine cone in the sculpture garden and threw it, inadvertently puncturing the canvas of the multimillion-dollar Magritte masterpiece.
• Museum conservators are assessing the extent of the damage and working on restoration efforts, with officials expressing confidence that the artwork can be repaired and eventually returned to display.

• A black bear spotted for the first time ever in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya prompted officials to suspend classes at all 94 city-run elementary and middle schools, affecting a city of roughly 500,000 people north of Tokyo.
• The bear was first seen near a residential park on Saturday and continued to appear in different parts of the city, including residential, commercial, and industrial areas, while authorities, police, and local hunting groups searched for it.
• Residents were urged to stay alert, keep doors and windows secured, avoid approaching the animal, and seek shelter immediately if they encountered it.
• The incident is part of a broader surge in bear encounters across Japan, where sightings have reached record levels, and recent attacks, including one in Fukushima that injured four people, have heightened concerns about bears increasingly venturing into human-populated areas. Experts have pointed to food shortages, climate-related changes, and rural depopulation as contributing factors.

• U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists in Cincinnati intercepted a shipment from Germany that was declared as “winter jackets,” but inspection revealed 337 hatching eggs packed in foam layers instead.
• The shipment was headed to Alaska and was flagged for additional scrutiny based on intelligence gathering and customs screening procedures.
• Officials determined the shipment lacked the required import documentation, making the eggs illegal to enter the United States.
• The eggs were seized because the U.S. Department of Agriculture prohibits the import of hatching eggs from countries affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu). The shipment was turned over to USDA authorities.

• Power technology company Rehlko set a new Guinness World Record by mowing an American football field-sized area in just 14 minutes and 51.06 seconds using a ride-on lawnmower powered by its 999cc, 41-horsepower Command PRO engine.
• The record attempt took place on May 16 at Louisville’s TurfMutt Great Lawn, where social media lawn-care influencer Hali Rieman piloted the mower across roughly 57,600 square feet (5,350 square meters) of grass.
• Rehlko said the challenge was designed to showcase the durability and performance of its commercial-grade engine under demanding real-world mowing conditions, including grass maintained at a minimum height of six inches.
• The record wasn’t about top speed, but about completing a full mowing job as quickly as possible while actually cutting the grass, demonstrating sustained performance rather than a one-off speed run.

• Dallas-area FIFA World Cup venues are preparing to use four-legged robot dogs, primarily Boston Dynamics’ Spot robots, to assist security teams by inspecting suspicious packages, checking restricted areas, and helping assess potentially hazardous situations.
• A viral social media video sparked concerns that the robots would use facial recognition to verify tickets and track fans, but Boston Dynamics said the machines are not being used for facial recognition and are focused on perimeter security and hazard detection.
• The robots are equipped with 360-degree cameras and sensors capable of detecting thermal, audio, and chemical anomalies, allowing them to gather information in areas that could be risky for human personnel.
• While officials describe the technology as a safety and efficiency tool, the rollout has reignited debates about surveillance, privacy, and the increasingly visible role of robots at major public events. Similar robot dogs have already been deployed or planned for use at sporting events in the U.S., England, and Mexico.

• A Florida woman who was born without a right hand had a distracted-driving citation dismissed after an officer claimed he saw her holding a phone in her “right hand” while driving.
• The traffic stop went viral after body-camera footage showed the woman lifting her right arm stump and joking, “So you wanna just call this a day?” while the deputy continued insisting he saw a hand.
• The woman, an adaptive athlete and TikTok creator known as “Slightlyoff.balance,” fought the $116 citation in court instead of simply paying it, and received online support and criticism of the stop.
• Before the scheduled hearing, the Palm Beach County deputy requested the case be dismissed for “lack of evidence,” ending a case many commenters called one of the most absurd traffic tickets they’d ever seen.

• A major sewage flow from Mexico via the Tijuana River is dumping up to 38 million gallons of wastewater daily into waters near Coronado, California, severely polluting beaches.
• The contamination has led to frequent beach closures (129 days in 2025 alone), foul odors, and warnings that water contact could cause illness.
• Residents are reporting health issues linked to toxic gases (like hydrogen sulfide), including respiratory problems, headaches, and nausea.
• Officials say the crisis is worsening due to Tijuana’s population growth overwhelming infrastructure, and are pushing for emergency action while the U.S. and Mexico work on long-term fixes.
• The situation has earned the grim (and unfortunately memorable) nickname “poo-nami,” referring to the massive, wave-like surge of sewage contaminating coastal waters and beaches.

• U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed reports that Iran is deploying “kamikaze dolphins,” saying there’s no evidence they exist and joking about the claim during a Pentagon briefing.
• Hegseth added a notable caveat: he said he “can’t confirm or deny” whether the U.S. has such capabilities, but insisted he can confirm Iran does not.
• The idea stems from older reports that Iran acquired Soviet-trained dolphins capable of detecting targets or potentially being used in attacks, though experts say current claims are likely exaggerated or speculative.
• Officials emphasized that while the U.S. Navy does use dolphins, they are trained for defensive roles like mine detection, not offensive or suicide missions, amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

• A “2026 Sperm Racing World Cup” is being organized as a global competition where 128 participants’ sperm samples race on a microscopic track, with the fastest swimmer winning a $100,000 prize.
• The races are conducted in lab conditions using imaging tech and controlled environments, turning sperm motility, normally a medical metric, into a spectator sport streamed online.
• Despite the bizarre premise, the event’s stated goal is to raise awareness about declining male fertility, with global sperm counts having dropped by more than 50% over recent decades.
• Organizers frame the competition as a way to destigmatize male reproductive health and encourage men to track and improve fertility metrics, blending science, entertainment, and public health messaging.
• Applications are now open on spermracing.com, which will also host the livestream.

• A university conference about censorship at Weber State ended up being restricted and effectively derailed after administrators told presenters to censor terms like “DEI” to comply with Utah’s anti-DEI law (HB 261).
• The university argued the event wasn’t “academic” (because of how it was funded), meaning it didn’t qualify for protections that would allow freer discussion under the law.
• Multiple presenters withdrew rather than alter their research language, and others reported being asked to soften or change politically sensitive wording, even in titles, highlighting pressure to self-censor.
• The situation reflects a broader trend where anti-DEI legislation is influencing academic speech, encouraging self-censorship, and limiting what can be discussed in university settings.

• Donald Trump publicly revealed he may not fully grasp the rules of the classic card game Uno.
• He shared an image of himself holding a hand stacked with Wild cards, captioned “I hold all the cards,” seemingly unaware that in Uno, victory comes from getting rid of your cards, not hoarding them.
• The post appeared intended as a metaphor for strength amid tensions with Iran and ongoing negotiations.
• Instead, it drew widespread mockery, not only as another addition to Trump’s recent wave of AI-slop imagery, but also for misunderstanding the basic premise of one of the world’s most familiar games.

• A Russian court fined a regional news outlet 1 million rubles for publishing an article about swinger parties, ruling it violated laws against “non-traditional sexual relations” content.
• The news site, 63.ru, published an article entitled “There’s no turning back from debauchery: how swinger parties in Russia work — we learned everything, even the prices.”
• Authorities treated the article as illegal “propaganda,” reflecting the country’s strict and expanding restrictions on LGBTQ+ or sexually non-conforming topics in media.
• The case was reportedly triggered by media regulator Roskomnadzor, and the outlet removed the article, describing it as harmless or routine content.
• The fine is part of a ‘swing’ towards a broader pattern of censorship and legal pressure on independent or local media in Russia, where even lifestyle or entertainment coverage can lead to penalties.
